The other day I was talking to my friend who is working and is also a new mom. She was stressing over the fact that she wants to spend more time with her family but couldn’t decide what to do. Straight off, I shouted “Movie Nights”! I mean who wants to go out when the malls are overcrowded and roads are jam-packed with vehicles.

I love to watch movies online and I do that all the time with my husband because going out on weekends with my 2-year-old is a task! Also, it is so easy to prepare a bowl of popcorn, a healthy Detox Drink, and arrange few candles or fairy lights…up to you! It is your house! Set the table and the mood.

And before you ask me what to watch, guys I need to talk about ZEE5 Originals! Why I recommend ZEE5 Originals is because of the fact that they are addressing so many issues through their thoughtful content. For example: the platform’s first Tamil web series “America Mappillai”, where a boy’s father nags him to get married and so lies about being gay. The chaos that follows says a lot more about Indian society in general.

Another web series that really caught my attention is “Karenjit Kaur – the Untold Story of Sunny Leone”, the series captures the journey of former pornstar-turned-actor Sunny Leone. Nobody actually knows the whole story behind the choices she made and ZEE5 conducted extensive research to make all of us understand better and in a clear way. They provided a platform and a chance to a woman to keep her side of the story which is remarkable.

But coming to the focus here, apart from web series, ZEE5 features a long list of original movies that showcase stories that we don’t see very often.

By now, I am sure that now that you have made up your mind to watch movies online on ZEE5, so here are my Top 10 Favourite Original Movies on ZEE5 that should not be missed!

  1. Badnaam Gali:

Let me start with this ZEE5 original comedy-drama movie. I absolutely loved the concept of this movie that involved Surrogacy and Motherhood. Also, it was kind of distressing to mind but hey do not get me wrong it is a beautiful story and the actors did full justice to their roles. I particularly liked Divyendu Sharma. In addition to that, Patralekha’s acting as a headstrong woman was nice too.

2. Yours Truly:

I remember Soni Razdaan from her Doordarshan hit TV series Buniyaad. My mom loved her! Her character in this movie made me so curious that I was determined to hear the railway announcer thoughtfully the next time I am at the railway station. Lol….yes yes that’s what this sweet story is about. Where the character finds love in a station announcer’s voice.

3. The Sholay Girl:

This will be an interesting watch for you. It depicts the life of Bollywood’s first stunt woman “Reshma Pathan”. Definitely an irresistible watch! Honestly, I never even thought how would a life of stunt woman be! This movie is such an eye-opener as the movie shows her side of the story and behind the scenes struggle to bring alive action on screen.

4. Moh:

Why is somebody after money? Why is everyone after money? It is a rat race, right? We think about all these worldly affairs. We want more than our friends, neighbours, relatives etc.

Why am I saying so, because this emotional drama starring Adah Sharma hits the right chord! Watch it to find out yourself. What really money is and how we can lose everything that we have right now. After all, money should be just a tool of transaction.

5. 377 Ab Normal:

Do you remember the Supreme Court’s verdict that decriminalised Section 377? Well yes, as a society what a victory we saw on that historic day! I believe that it is very important for everyone to have the freedom to love and be loved the way they want. Love has no boundaries. 377 अब Normal is a beautiful and strong movie at the same time that shows a fight for freedom. No brainer it is a must-see film.

6. Tigers:

As a mom, I am very particular about what my baby eats in a day. When I saw the trailer for this ZEE5 Original film “Tigers”, I was sure that I had to see it. A very thought-provoking and relatable topic, this true story should not be missed by you at any cost! Also, trust me when I say this, you’ve never seen Emraan Hashmi like this before.

Okay, I understand that sometimes you just want to laze around and do not want to be in front of a screen for too long. I get you, my friends. So, here are a few Short Films that I would like to talk about:

7. Fatafat:

(51 minutes short movie)

Well, it is about a struggling call centre employee who thinks that he can find solace through some pills. Watch the movie to know whether these black MAGIC pills really get him far in career and love life?

8. Toothbrush:

Sameer Soni starrer The Toothbrush, which is now streaming on ZEE5 is one of my favourite short movies and guys if you are about to watch movies online on ZEE5 this weekend, please do not miss this one. I never thought that there are actually various levels in a relationship. Right from being in love to being heartbroken, Sameer Soni is outstanding. Hence, making the film worth a watch!

9. Mehram:

Mehram means close male relative in Urdu.

This movie actually made me search and I found out that Under the Saudi Arabian laws, women without a ‘ Mehram’ (a male blood relative) were forbidden to perform the Hajj earlier. If you wish to know more about the law read here . It is a movie where you will see Farida Jalal at her best and that, itself, makes it a must-see short movie!

10. Khaar

If you love watching historic dramas, then this movie is exactly what you need. Many years ago, Gandhi led dozens of his followers from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi which was a very long journey. On March 12, 1930, Mahatma Gandhi embarked a historic Salt March to start the Civil Disobedience Satyagraha. During this period Indians were not allowed to pick salt from the seashore or sell salt! It is crazy! However, the movie focusses on the lesser-known behind the scenes struggle behind making the Dandi March a reality. Exploring this lesser-known chapter in history on screen is a unique experience, to say the least.

So, what are you waiting for my dear friends? Start planning now which movie you will watch with your family this weekend. Let me also know your suggestions in the comment box below!
