Having beautiful skin is mostly a result of healthy skin care habits. Our skin is always changing, especially as we get older. However, our 20s skin also still has a great capacity for absorbing nutrients that can delay skin aging and make a huge difference in your later years. Here are some important healthy skin habits to adopt in your 20s for healthier skin in the future.

1. Always wash your face when removing makeup.

Sleeping with your makeup on is one of the worst crimes you can do to your skin. Unless you were using natural or mineral-based makeup, most makeup products contain a chock-full of harmful chemicals that can damage your skin when allowed to absorb overnight. A product like the Neogen Real Cica Micellar Cleansing Foam is a hypoallergenic foaming cleanser using micellar technology to deliver a deep clean to the pores and effectively remove makeup and impurities.

2. Start wearing sunscreen every day.

Applying sunscreen is becoming a universal beauty and skin care advice espoused by hundreds of beauty gurus and practically every dermatologist. That’s because UV rays are accounted for the majority of skin-related damage that is directly linked with skin aging. The most common effects of UV induced skin aging include wrinkles, dark spots, and pigmentation.

Sunscreen wards off UV induced skin damage by protecting your skin from absorbing these harmful UV rays. It is generally recommended to use sunscreen every day with at least 35+ SPF (sun protection factor) about thirty minutes before going out. It is also recommended to apply sunscreen even when the sun isn’t visibly out as in rainy days or during winter, as UV rays can still penetrate through and cause damage to the skin.

3. Try using antioxidant serums.

Antioxidant and vitamin-based serums have become popular in the beauty world recently, and for good reason. Vitamin and antioxidant serums do a good job of supplying absorbable nutrients to your skin and fighting off free radicals that significantly counter-act skin aging. Vitamin C based antioxidant serums are very popular because Vitamin C is a multi-functional vitamin that acts as an antioxidant that fights free radicals that damage your skin, aid in promoting collagen synthesis for firmer skin, and enhances skin vitality for a brighter complexion.

4. Keep dirty hands off your face.

Our hands come into contact with many things, thus accumulating and passing on germs and microbes that can cause skin irritation when we forget to keep them off our face. Also, we must resist the urge of popping out pimples and blackheads, because popping them using our fingers can cause permanent scarring and further irritation. Pimple and acne scars can leave what look like dark spots that do not fade even years after. Thus, it is important to avoid touching your face with your hands or pop your pimples to prevent this damage.

5. Get enough sleep every night.

In today’s hectic and fast-paced world, many people opt to compromise on sleep which causes long-term health damage, including skin damage. Our skin’s cellular renewal process happens at night when we sleep, where old dead skin cells are sloughed off and new skin cells are formed underneath. However, we can sabotage this process if we don’t get enough sleep.

Thus, make it a priority to get seven to eight hours of beauty sleep every night, or as much as you can. Getting enough rest and sleep should be prioritized because regularly failing to do so will cause drastic health consequences that might be hard to reverse. Also, our skin absorbs a lot of nutrients at night as part of its natural renewal process, so its also highly recommended to put in your most effective skin care products and practices right before going to sleep.

6. Eat a healthy diet.

Apart from getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet is another cornerstone in maintaining healthy skin and body. The simplest way to have a healthy diet is to eliminate and cut out on junk, processed, and unhealthy food as they are loaded with bad ingredients and toxins that compromise healthy body functioning. Then, make it a point to eat healthy foods like fatty fish, fruits, nuts, vegetables, and fermented foods to supply your body with nutrients to repair and protect itself.

Having beautiful skin can be achieved with the right diet, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle in addition to healthy skin care practices for promoting a clear and radiant complexion. Furthermore, it’s easier to achieve beautiful skin when you start building healthy habits as early as possible, especially in your 20s.
