There’s ever chance you might not have seen much of your grandparents in recent months as lockdown has forced so many of us to forego seeing friends and family.
Of course, you still need to be cautious, but with quarantine measures easing, you can now see your elderly relatives again – here are a few things you could do to treat them.
Send photos
All of our lives will have moved on more than we realize during lock-down – those quarantine haircuts and home-bakes might have gone unnoticed by your elders. Why not print off some photos from your phone and send them on as a little lock-down diary.
Visit for a cuppa
We all lead busy lives, but even if you don’t have lots of time on your hands, popping for a quick cuppa and a catch-up will do both of you the world of good.
Make them a nice dinner
But if you do have some spare time, why not treat them to a slap-up meal. A nice Sunday roast never goes amiss, but even a weeknight get-together is the perfect time to break some bread.
Have a chat about their past
How much about your grandparents’ lives do you know? Chances are you were told plenty of stories as a child, but it might have been a case of in one ear and out the other. You might even learn something about yourself by finding out about how your family came to be.
Spoil them at the shops
Some nice summery ladies’ nightwear for your nanna, or a pair of comfy slippers for your grandad. A trip out is a great chance to get some steps in and you can spoil them in the process.
Send some flowers
An easy way to brighten up someone’s day, flowers will bring vibrancy to a room and can be placed in your grandparent’s favourite spot.
Help them with technology
Sure, you’ve been busy Zooming and Sky-ping everyone these past few months, but have your grandparents been able to do that? Give them a crash course in the essentials like video-calling and online banking and you’ll give them a serious amount of independence.
Give their garden a refresh
Many elderly people love nothing more than getting green-fingered, but if your grandparent is struggling to get about then kneeling and digging might be out of the question. Do your bit and give them an outdoor space they can enjoy without going too far.
Hopefully you’ve got some good ideas on how to spoil your grandparents. Enjoy getting closer again!
