I hope you all are doing really well. Today I feel so good and the reason behind my delight is the fact that I was able to help nurture my surrounding. Sometimes we feel good by even doing a simple job. A work that you never thought you would take up.
Recently a drive to save lakes came to my attention and I was more than happy to cover the whole event on my social media channels. One such lake for which we are working is officially known as Maragondanahalli-Gollahalli lake, and it is situated in midst of Electronic City Ph1, Bangalore. We also call it “Lake Marli”!
Now, I hope you are aware about “Guardian Of Lakes”, which is an organisation that took up a challenge to bring the lakes of Bengaluru alive! GOLET is what they call themselves and it comprises of a group of young, energetic, dynamic enthusiasts who also supervise the upkeep of the lakes.
GOLET is an NGO in India registered under India Trust Act.
Their motive is clear- “To conserve water zones and also provide support to plants and help them become trees.”
However, mind you guys, this test was not as easy as anything.
Members of the club worked on weekends and holidays. For them cleaning the lake was more important than watching a movie in a theatre. Of course, they could have done the same like many of us do. Park our car anywhere and spend the weekend and free time with family and friends.
But leaders choose to sacrifice. 🙂 🙂 🙂
The task of cleaning the lake started by a group of members. Bringing in their own tools they started cutting the bushes and by doing so they created a clear path to approach the lake bed.
All of us could see the change in few months!
Soon, participants from nearby community started joining. Recently, we had a plantation drive at Lake Marli where people from all age group joined! Kids were surely first to help.
And now after good 7 months the entire lake transformed into an activity park. The lake is now quite clean and trees are planted around the vicinity.
However, still a lot needs to be done, and hence as responsible society members, we at Laa Monstone thought to help our surrounding become clean and beautiful. For this we needed money and hence we started the drive to collect money in all ways possible!
I am so glad that women Of Laa Moonstone came forward to collect newspapers and sell it so that the money can be used for the lake. Children asked for donation on their birthday instead of gifts for the lake and there were so many other ways through which we got help! People from neighbour societies like Smondo and SJR are also helping in this noble cause.
