The majority of life is on lockdown at the moment, but eventually, it will end and we have to be prepared for that. In recent days, the UK has started back on the long road to recovery by relaxing certain lockdown measures. As those measures continue to lighten, there will be those amongst us who struggle to re-adapt to society after so many weeks in quarantine.

So, how should we be preparing for life after lockdown?

Make sure your affairs are in order

Make sure you know when contracts for things run out and when you need to look at updating things. This could be anything from your phone contracts to your broadband bill and your mortgage because many of us will likely have taken payment holidays during this period. Don’t allow everything to hit you like a ton of bricks at once; look over your utilities and your monthly financial commitments and ensure you know exactly what is coming out of your account and when.

Prepare your wardrobe

Many of us might have taken to working in our pyjamas during lockdown and whilst it might be comfortable, it’s not exactly a look that will find favour in the office. So, try breaking out your work wardrobe and wearing it around the house. It might sound a little daft, but it could help it feel like less of a ‘big thing’ when you finally have to get dressed up for the big return to the office.

Check on your car

If you drive to and from work then it’s likely you own a car that has been sat in the driveway completely unused for the last couple of months. In that case, you’re going to want to take it out for a spin and make sure the battery is in good health. Also, check whether or not you need to pretax your car, if your contract runs out soon or if it needs to be updated. You should be aware of your options and know what is available to you, so whether you drive a Porsche or a Peugeot you’ll be more than prepared for the post-COVID world.

Catch up with your colleagues

One of the things that can cause great anxiety about returning to work is that you might not have seen your co-workers in weeks. A good way to break the ice gently would be to organised a video conferencing session with your workmates in the days before returning to work.

Slide back into a routine

Finally, start slowly working your way back into your pre-lockdown routine. That includes getting up at the same time every morning, so remember to set that alarm clock on your phone for 6, 6:10, 6:15 and 6:20 if you need to.
