Are you frustrated because you cannot bare that midriff due to weight issues? You decide to loose weight and come out with flying colours…annoyed again because now you cannot bare that midriff due to unsightly stretch marks. Fret not, here are a few measures to get rid of, or at least reduce the appearance of those nasty marks.

– Hydrate : Drink a lot of water. Keeping your skin hydrated makes it more elastic which in turn helps in fading the existing stretch marks and preventing fresh ones.

– Over the counter treatments : There are a lot of creams that can be bought for fading the stretch marks. Creams containing cortisone work best on mild striae while Retino A works very well on deeper stretch marks. It contains retinoic acid which helps in minimising any scar on the skin to a great extent by dissolving scar proteins.

– Moisturisers : Slather on those body butters and nourish the skin because a well moisturised skin is less vulnerable to stretch marks. Shea butter and Coco butter work best on existing stretch marks and help in fading them over a period of time.

– Oils : Oils also moisturise the skin. Lavender, Coconut and Rose oil work very well on stretch marks especially the fresh ones.

– DIY : Apply aloe vera and potato juice, or lemon juice mixed with glycerine on the affected area. Potato restores skin cells and work on striae.

Scrubs and peels : Scrubbing the affected area will help in physical breakdown of superficial layer of skin hence revealing fresh skin. This process will gradually fade the scarring. If the surface area is large and the stretch marks are deep then try chemical peels.
Laser : Laser is your last resort if your stretch marks are very stubborn or old. It is an expensive procedure and can take a few sessions but most effective.

Tips:
– Loose weight gradually, fad diets and extreme weight loss in a very short span of time will cause a lot of stretch marks.
– Be patient, getting rid of stretch marks is not easy and the process may take months, sometimes even years.
Keep your skin hydrated and well moisturised during your weight loss journey, especially the areas prone to stretch marks.

Treat them when they are fresh because they become stubborn if left unattended.

Hope these tips help you in dealing with those tiger stripes. Remember what cannot be cured has to be endured so till the time you are fighting with those marks, hide them with makeup instead of loosing confidence over them!!!!
