My skin type- combination to oily, sensitive, acne prone ( Easy Beginners Makeup)
My skin tone- Mac NC42
Eyes- Brown
In this post I will be talking about makeup tips and steps to apply makeup & How to apply makeup for beginners. I have oily skin so all the products mentioned here are best for combination, oily skinned. This post is basically for all the beginers who are new to makeup and are confused about what to use when. We all know that for an amateur it can be a real task and so here is the breakdown for all of you 🙂 . These are the makeup essentials for beginners 🙂
1) Moisturizer– A moisturizer according to your skin type is important. I have combination-oily skin which is sensitive and acne prone. I love my Neutrogena moisturizer (reviewed here)nd currently using the body shop Vitamin c moisturizer(Reviewed here). After cleansing face and before applying any makeup it’s important to create a shield between the skin and the harsh chemicals used in cosmetics.
2) Primer– I was unaware of the benefits that a primer can provide. It makes your makeup stay for long and creates a smooth and clean surface for any makeup. Be sure that you use an eye primer too so that the eye shadows that you use stay put!
3) Concealer– To cover my dark circles and any imperfection I use my color bar concealer(Reviewed Here) that match the skin and provides a clear skin faux effect.
For my dark circles I use a shade lighter than my natural skin so that it doesn’t look ashy and matched with my natural skin.
It is advised to use a tinted green or yellow tone based concealer for discoloration.
I simply pat with my fingers in outward direction and never rub in the concealer. The warmth of the fingertips blends it well. However over acne I use a tip -concealer or a brush so that no bacteria is transferred.
On my oily skin a cream based concealer works best.
4) Foundation & Face powder– After the concealer it’s the work of the foundation that takes care of the full face. I use a medium to full coverage foundation. Currently using Mac Studio fix Fluid spf 15 foundation and loving it(Full Review Here). it blends beautifully. Choose foundation according to your skin type.
It should be oil free, matte finish for oily skin, liquid foundation for normal to dry skin and pressed powder foundation for normal skin.
How To apply Foundation?– Take the required amount of foundation at the back of my hand, put little dots all over face and try to blend it with fingers. A brush can do wonders here if you are a makeup literate otherwise fingers are simple and easy as well. Special attention is needed near the mouth and the jawline. You can also apply the BB creams and CC creams available in the market if You wish to be spared from the foundation pain.
Face powder is to set your makeup and be aware as too much of it can make your face look powdery and ghostly. So apply little, as and when required.
It’s a must have for my combination-oily skin as I keep applying it throughout the day to keep the extra shine off my face and believe me it works as it helps giving a polished look!
5) Blush– Usually it started as a rouge where it was available in just one color red and was used to redden the cheeks. But a modern day blush is available in different shades and textures. You just need to pick the right one. The creamy texture for dry and powder blush for oily skin.
So, which shade would suit your skin tone giving a radiant healthy glow? Well did you see the Maybelline cheeky glow blushes? They are so cute, affordable and available easily. Plus available in three shades pick according to your skin tone!(
Reviewed Here)Surfing hundreds of pictures online I think Teracotta(earth shade), medium orange and corals looks good on brown/olive/dark skintones while pinks and mauves looks good on fair skinned. Still one should experiment and see what works best for you.
6) Highlighter- where to apply highlighter? it’s usually to draw attention to your best features. Use it for faux glow as well. A white highlighter is used below the brow bone to give a nice finish and inside the inner corner of the eye to give a nice illuminated effect. Makeup artists emphasize the best and minimize the not so good facial features by the bronzer/highlighter trick. They use it on forehead, cheekbone, Nose & chin as well!
I have not mastered the art of applying bronzer and highlighter to give a sculpted look yet but my recent buy, a Colorbar highlighter i.e. shimmer brick works amazingly for me (Reviewed Here)
Liquid highlighter with my BB cream gives a nice dewy glow to my face. Also a powder highlighter is best for my oily skin. But the powder vanished after some time and hence its proved that a creamy highlighter works great for inner corner eye area for me.
7) Eyeshadow- I am a single eyeshadow lover. Not that I don’t like smoky eye effect or playing with colors but my sheer innocence of not knowing how to apply makeup beautifully keeps me away from experimenting. But I like shades on my eyes and cant keep it plain for some reason. I use colors that enhance my eye.
Gold and berries look good on dark skinned. While taupe, pink and green looks good on fair skinned. It also depends on the color of the eye. Example on blue eyes- gold & copper looks good. For black eyes blue, gold & purple looks good.
Luckily I have brown eyes and most of the colors go well! I love green, plum, bronze, peach and metallic all look equally good. Again please experiment and see for yourself. This is a general idea.
8) Eye-liner – how can an eye makeup be complete without a liner. There are a different ways to apply liners. I like to keep my liner simple and thin. Now eye liner are available in various colors so explore!
9) Mascara– Used to give an enhanced look. Many options are available in the market to lengthen your lashes or to make them appear thicker! Love my L’Oreal’s Lash 4d mascara (Reviewed Here)
10) Lipstick / lipgloss– It depends on the makeup really. If the eye makeup is too loud than you should keep the lip shade neutral. Like with the Smokey eyes goes neutral shade or soft color on the lips, similarly if want to sport red or any dark shade lip color, keep the eyes simple as you don’t want to attract unnecessary wrong attention!
Which shades suit dark skinned? According to me- berry shades, plums & dark plums, burgundy, coffees, mahoganies, chocolates, wine and browns look good on dark skin tones. If you sport dark skin and want a red lipstick in your life that doesn’t scare you then go for blue-toned red.
While pink, peach and reds with orange tints look best with medium to fair tones.
Cranberry, wines look nice on fair too.
Hope you liked the breakdown!
