The world isn’t quite the same as it used to be. Even something as simple as going outside is different. So many of us have had to put our lives on hold. However, you need to remember that we’ve only hit the pause button – soon we’ll get to play again. In the meantime, you can still find plenty of time and reasons to celebrate. Focus on the silver lining rather than the cloud it surrounds.
Show ‘You Care’
It’s times like this that make you realise just how much you appreciate your loved ones. Even though you’re apart from them, you can get through this together. Make sure to put the time in to keep in touch with them, it will do you both a world of good. You may have special events lined up that you’ll have to virtually celebrate. Why not go out all for the occasion? You can all get banners and bunting for an online birthday celebration. By putting in the extra effort to make it special for them, it shows that you care.
Gain Normalcy
Perhaps it’s not the big things you want to focus on. Maybe you just want the celebrate the weekend as you would normally. Simply spend a night with your friends and make the most of their company. There are plenty of online options that let hang out with your friends. Whether it’s a cosy movie night or cocktails and karaoke – you can still see and talk to each other, even if you’re not in the same room.
Mental Health
The current situation is bound to have an impact on mental health and the UK has seen a rise in first-time patients for mental illness. As lovely as it is connecting with loved ones, it’s important for you to take care of yourself during this. You don’t have to force yourself to feel ok all the time, but even on the bad days try to find something that makes you happy. You can celebrate the smallest of things: cooking yourself a meal, trying a new walk, finishing a particularly good film. There can be joy in the most simple of things.
Lockdown impacts us all differently. There is no wrong or right way of getting through this. When you find those moments to celebrate – try your best to make the most of them. Remind yourself of the good. What are some things you’ve been celebrating during this time?
