Hey guys, I am so excited to write this post as I just met a very dear friend who recently returned from US (Boston) after her higher studies. She came to meet me in Bengaluru and I took her to my favourite spots here. We shopped, ate and had a gala time. We lingered in the mall for hours and after spending a good amount of time. Since no energy was left to even stand on our two feet we decided to come back. Nearly half asleep in the cab as it takes ages in Bengaluru to reach one’s destination, as we returned, I prepared a cup of tea for us. Ginger tea with a pinch of cardamom just as we both like we started chatting about our college days.
And when we talk about college, we have to talk about the college canteen, the classes that were bunked, the lovely teachers, boys of nearby hostel, girls from science stream (we were commerce BTW), early morning MTV channel songs (Instant Karma, bahon mein chale aayo…anybody can recall?)and the evening lighthearted enjoyment while watching favourite soap operas. Okay, that is a fancy word I just used, how about we call it TV shows from now on in this post.
As we were reminiscing the time we couldn’t help but talk about a few of the TV shows that we just couldn’t miss! No matter how unfinished our projects were or what was the deadline we had to watch these serials.
So, I was watching a repeat- of “Kumkum Bhagya” on ZEE5, when a song started playing in the background”. What exactly is Bollywood music nowadays? And why this song is being played in this scene? Asked my foreign return Indian friend.
Firstly, she thinks that if music is not pop, rock, R&B and hip-hop then it is no music at all! However, isn’t that what Bollywood songs are nowadays? It is a mixture of Indian pop music, classical music along with western music. And secondly, she is not aware of the trend where Bollywood songs are used as background music like mashups in TV shows. And hence her innocent question.
I personally love Bollywood music and I like watching Romantic Hindi TV shows. So, when I see a Bollywood song mashup on TV shows I can relate so easily. Such mashup takes a particular scene to the next level altogether. It is like watching a movie starring your favourite Tv Actors!
And therefore, I thought how cool it would be to talk about a few of my favourite Bollywood song mashups in TV shows. If you like Bollywood song mashups in TV shows too then this post is just for you my friend and so keep reading.
1. Bollywood song mashups in TV shows
My first fav mashup has to be from “Kumkum Bhagya”, Mile Ho Tum Humko. I absolutely love this song that is originally sung by Neha Kakkar and right when the scene is shot where Pragya and Abhi are reuniting after so many ups and downs, this song is played and wow how beautifully the scene is shot. Produced by Ekta Kapoor, her team knows when and which song to use. As far as I remember Ekta started this whole trend of larger than life sets for TV shows and Bollywood songs mashups. In fact, there are so many Bollywood songs that actually became popular after they were being played in TV shows. Remember the song “Thoda sa pyaar hua hai, thoda hai baaki”, After it was played in one of the TV shows produced by her, people actually started hearing it on a repeat!
2. Bollywood song mashups in TV shows
Okay moving forward, a very beautiful song and an equally lovely Bollywood mashup is “Dekha Hazaron Dafa”. It is from the movie Rustom sung by super talented Arijit Singh. Featuring in the show Kundali Bhagya, the song sees two amazing actors on screen. Dheeraj Dhoopar (Karan) and Shraddha Arya (Preeta) share such cool chemistry on screen. Their love-hate relationship was the talk of the town when the TV show premiered and now if you want to relive those moments, I highly recommend you watch the show on ZEE5.
3. Bollywood song mashups in TV shows
Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega is not a serial with a regular saas-bahu story. It is a story about a widower Akshat who gets married to a young girl name Guddan. Guddan who becomes India’s first Mom in law at such a young age! Okay, I won’t reveal anything further on the plot. You need to find out yourself. But there is one particular song mashup that I want you to check out in the show. It is “Lae Dooba” from movie Aiyaary where the song is used to show the chemistry between Akshat & Guddan. Trust me, this sequence is fantastic.
And that is all for you guys. Can you recall any scene from any of your favourite serial that had a Bollywood mashup song and then you started listening to that song on a repeat?
