When a meal can transport you straight to Europe ….you know it’s a moment to be savored.
The European Union is hosting its restaurant week in Mumbai as an extension to its Tastes Of Europe Campaign, which aims to increase consumer awareness about European dishes, ingredients and flavors in India. I surely did not want to miss this delectable delight, so I headed over to the Olive bar & Kitchen, on day one itself,
A lavish spread was prepared under Chef Arun D’souza’s careful direction who churned out the crème de la crème of European delicacies from his kitchen.
The festive menu consisted of a 3 course meal (Rs 1850 per head)
We started the tastings with appetizers of course, first to be served was Carrot & Pepper Vichyssoise which is basically a pureed soup made out of pickled carrot, potatoes and white bean. It was served with Croquette in the center which I gladly gobbled down.
Next up was Salad Panzarosalata which is a marinated beetroot salad, I have tried Panzarosalata in the past but Chef’s version with caramelized walnuts and fennel citrus dressing gave this simple salad a whole new definition.
Heading over to the main course, I was served The vegetable shepherd’s pie which looked like a stunner and tasted even better. It’s a sweet potato crust with puy lentils topped with aged English cheddar surrounded with mushroom sauce or Fricassee as they call it. The flavors were subtle and everything together created a sweet symphony in the mouth!!!!!
Now it was time for some sinful indulgences and we were served Decadent Eclairs and Orange Infused Crème Brulee I simply loved decadent éclairs, the shells were crisp and the filling was absolutely yummylicious.
The crème brulee was topped with a macaroon which was truly a visual delight but I did not like it as much, probably because I am not someone who enjoys a mix of citrus and sweet.
Words will not do justice because this is an experience not to be missed. The USP of the recipes was that all the ingredients, say puy lentils, the kalamata olive oil, the cheese, the walnuts etc everything has been imported from the European Union. The vegetables have been carefully picked and the breads have been baked following special standards which definitely added a special and unique taste to the food.
On the menu, there also was Lyoner And Scallops & Pork which I could not try as I don’t eat pork but if you do, then you will surely love it as these dishes are especially recommended by Chef Arun.
With the multitude of eating options in the city I had missed out on Olive restaurant but after being there, I must say that the place has a character of its own which adds that wow factor to the diners. I had a good food moment with the candle lit special dinner at Olive. From concept to creation everything was Total jaw dropper. It surely was a gourmand’s ensemble served with love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally had to absent myself from the place but the delectable food definitely Left me lemming for more
I am sure you will be busy with your daily grinds but if you keep an appetite for European food and want to indulge in food for the soul, you absolutely must visit Olive at Pali Hill Bandra to try this special menu before the restaurant week, ends i.e. on Friday, 12th of September.
