A Day Trip To Kuntala Waterfalls Hyderabad, Weekend Getaway

Life is either a great adventure or nothing. And these adventure become fun when you’re out with your loved ones.

My brother Atul was on his vacation trip to India, and had come down to Hyderabad to visit me. It was a bright Sunday morning and we suddenly just decided to hit the road and make a trip to Kuntala Waterfalls, located 250 kms away from Hyderabad in Kuntala, Adilabad District of Andhra Pradesh.

I was a little skeptical about driving that distance, but then we just wanted to head for an adventurous road trip and yes we did in the most ad-hoc manner. Planned trips are good, but unplanned ones are the best as they’re full of surprises!!!

The drive to Kuntala water fall is smooth and we managed to reach there with one lunch break in approximately 4 hours. Located amidst dense forest and sahayadri mountain range, this is the highest waterfall of Andhra Pradesh.

There’s a popular story which people here do believe about the waterfall getting its name as Kuntala. People believe that the waterfall got its name from Shakuntala , the beloved wife of King Dushyanth who met each  other here and fell in love.

The best time to visit this waterfall would be monsoons when the water levels in the river Kanda increase due to heavy rain water. It’s a sigh to cherish when you see the water falling from the heights.

The lush greenery, the beautiful drive, fun times with my brother and husband made this the most awesome ad-hoc road trip we ever made.
